revealing the process behind Notes From The City
it's me, hi
[1. how I got here]
The only thing more terrifying than posting my first substack was letting someone access my thoughts.
Because if I never share my writing…am I really a writer? Or would that make me a journaler slash closet writer hiding a Notes app full of thoughts no one will ever see?
[2. what took me so long]
Writers are often asked, “What is it you think you have to say?”
In my experience, this question was never a good one. It sent me spiraling: Do I sound like I want to be a writer because I think that I am wise and all-knowing? Or overly self-important, egotistical?
Except I knew the significance when feeling something that resonates - feeling seen, validated, understood. Taylor’s evermore album release after a breakup. And just as inimitable is an experience of stepping into someone else’s world and learning their truth.
Thinking about that shifted the paradigm.
[3. where I’m going]
What is it that I have to say?
I have so much to say. We all do. Sharing our stories and experiences unrestrained & honestly offers us a way to connect, resonate, feel aligned or to learn and empathize.
In other words, across my writings you’ll find themes that include: everyday life the city brings, self-discovery, the effects of therapy, relationships, curated fashion, reflections on creativity, and the small, often overlooked moments that shape who we are.
Lastly, you may be wondering the name behind Notes From The City. Though not intentionally hiding the writer [me], I wanted to create a page that lets the stories speak for themselves and focus on content rather than a person.
That’s a little on me, why I’m here, and why I created this page publicly. I hope we get to know each other and continue sharing along the way.
