attaining tableside glee
last weekend over dinner with friends, a seemingly small request — ordering the dessert — set the tone for the evening.
once dinner plates were cleared and the check was laid flat on the table, I requested we wait…would anyone be up for splitting a dessert? one of us groaned, we had just completed a workout class that afternoon. but if all four of us split?
we agreed on the menu’s butter cake. four gleaming spoons later, warm buttery exultant bites elicited a state of childlike glee - the four of us agreeing the butter cake was the finisher of an otherwise excellent meal. something about the camaraderie of criss-crossing spoons and the deft agreement of the night and the butter cake’s amazing-ness further lifted heightened moods and spirits. to have skipped dessert would have been like missing the star of the show.
it turns out no one of us could remember the last time we ordered dessert, usually reserved sparingly for occasion. why not make this night an occasion?
when was the last time you ordered dessert? share with someone you’ll partake with — and confirm that glee outlasts the last bite. 💌
